Step Ahead Program for Multi-Barriered Refugees

Step Ahead is a project designed to assist refugees and immigrants who are facing multiple challenges to their settlement.

The hallmark of Step Ahead is mobile outreach, whereby Step Ahead Settlement Counsellors assess referred refugee and immigrant families in their home environment and together with clients develop action plans to lift specified barriers to their settlement. Step Ahead aims to empower its clients toward the goals of integration and self-sufficiency though intensive case management.

Step Ahead is a collaborative endeavor of five agencies. MOSAIC is the “lead agency” of the consortium that also includes Immigrant Services Society of BC, S.U.C.C.E.S.S., Burnaby Family Life, and DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society.

Step Ahead provides services in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and Surrey. Step Ahead does not provide walk-in services. Individuals or organizations that want to refer refugees and immigrants to the project may send in a completed  Referral Form. Please see pdf file below.

To read more about the project, please download an article about Step Ahead that appeared in the national journal Our Diverse Cities published by Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Metropolis.
