Working Definition
of Translation
Translate:
to transfer the meaning of text written in one language to text
written in another language while preserving the semantic and
lexical values of the source (original) language and respecting the
syntactic, lexical and semantic values of the target (resultant)
language.
The
translation process involves the rendition of lexical items
(words) and appropriate rendition of syntax (grammar) and semantics
(meaning).

Working with You
-
Translation
is a collaborative process; to ensure a quality product
that meets your expectations, your input is required throughout:
-
Tell us
the purpose of the translation, origin of the source text, etc.
-
Provide us
with key contacts
to help clear up questions/discrepancies quickly. Remember: we may
need to reach key contacts after business hours for rush jobs.
-
Schedule
ample time
for translation, formatting and other services; the benchmark for
translation is 1,500 English words per day. Rush jobs often mean
higher costs; planning ahead keeps costs lower.
-
Have the
first draft of the translation proofread before the final copy
is produced. Good translation combines the talents of a translator
and a proofreader.
-
Let us know
if you want the final document returned in standard text or
with special formatting.
-
Give us
feedback
to help
improve future collaborations.

Step-by-step Translation
Process
The following
step-by-step process may be altered to suit the unique needs of each
of our clients.
-
If you are
budgeting for a project: gather
all materials, establish output needs and indicate languages.
-
We produce a
free-of-charge non-binding estimate within one business day.
-
For actual
projects: provide
the finalized version(s) of the original document(s) by e-mail or
fax, indicating your language, timeline and output needs.
-
We produce a
free-of-charge binding estimate within one business day.
-
You approve
the estimate by e-mail or faxing your signature.
-
If you are a
new client, an account is created after you provide us with a Visa
or MasterCard to which the first invoice will be billed.
-
A project
manager processes the project details according to the agreed-upon
specs.
-
We deliver a
proof to you in PDF format.
-
You proof
or approve the translation and send us comments, changes or
approval.
-
We implement
your requested changes and/or start a dialogue with you if we
notice any problems/discrepancies.
-
We deliver
the final product.

The original

-
The
translation
-
A photocopy
of the source document (certified by a Commissioner for Taking
Oaths and Affidavits if the photocopy was taken from an original)

Typesetting in 40 Alphabets
Working with
the latest Windows and OS operating systems, as well as a variety
of PC and Mac applications, we can typeset
in 40 alphabets and a variety of formats – from text to eps files.
__________________________________________________________________________
Standard Formatting
Translated
documents can be provided in standard-text format, which includes
the same paragraph breaks and bold/italicized words as the
original text.
In addition to
a hard copy, you may request a Mac- or IBM-compatible electronic
file of the translation in a common word- processing program. Please
note: for languages containing character sets (fonts) other than
UNICODE, this option may not be available.
__________________________________________________________________________
Special Formatting
Translated
documents can be formatted to mimic their source. Foreign-language
text is formatted to match its source text as closely as possible.
In-house proofing ensures texts have been placed correctly.
Supply an
electronic file in a compatible application supported by original
artwork and fonts and we’ll use it as a template into which the
translated text will be dropped.
Final layouts
are provided as electronic files in the program of your choice* or
in PDF or artwork format, along with a PDF proof for your approval.
*Please note: for
languages containing character sets (fonts) other than UNICODE, this
option may not be available.
__________________________________________________________________________
Proofreading
For an extra
cost (50 per cent of the cost of the translation component in the
project), an
independent translator will proofread the translated document.
__________________________________________________________________________
Business Cards
Our full
translation
rate
applies to each individual card when all the cards are different. A
reduced rate for
each consecutive card applies when all the cards are identical,
except for
the name and position of the cardholder.
For Japanese
business cards, please include an organization tree
depicting the
hierarchy of the company from the CEO to the cardholder, as well as
his/her exact function within the company.
For Chinese
cards, please specify in what parts of the world the cards are to be
distributed, so we can produce them in traditional or simplified
characters. If the cardholder already has a Chinese translation of
his/her name, it should be provided.

Quality Control
We have
developed the following steps to ensure strict quality-control:
-
Original
text previewed, specialized technology researched
-
First draft
of translation done by a professional translator
-
First draft
edited/proofed by you, or, if requested, by a second party
assigned by us
-
Editorial
comments reviewed, appropriate changes incorporated
If we are
handling the final production (formatting and layout) of the
translated document, an additional proofing step of the layout is included.
__________________________________________________________________________
Project Revisions
We will try to
accommodate requests for revision or updating of materials produced
in the past. We are, however, limited by changes in technology,
software and personnel.
__________________________________________________________________________
Confidentiality
MOSAIC
protects the confidentiality of all professionally acquired
information, disclosing such information only when properly
authorized or legally/professionally obligated to do so. The

Our
