Recognition of Nick Noorani
Representatives from Diversecity, ISS of BC and MOSAIC with Nick Noorani and Conference Moderator, Kanya Adam
Nick Noorani, the founding publisher of The Canadian Immigrant Magazine, was honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation at the Second Annual Immigrant Professionals Conference.
Noorani was given the recognition by Diversecity, ISS of BCand MOSAIC who sponsored the conference. Noorani has dedicated much of his professional and private life to helping immigrants succeed in Canada. Aside from his work with The Canadian Immigrant, Noorani has appeared as a keynote speaker at several conferences across Canada, hosts a radio program for immigrants and is the author of a book on the subject.
Noorani told the hundreds of immigrants at the Conference that immigrants who succeed in Canada understand “this is a different country and things are done differently here.”
He has developed Seven Success Secrets for Canadian Immigrants. They are:
- Learn English. Spend 8 hours a day, 7 days a week listening to and speaking English if that’s what it takes.
- Stay Positive
- Embrace Canada. Don’t remain a visitor in your new home country.
- Have a Plan B.
- Move out of your Comfort Zone. Stay clear of ethnic silos.
- Take Risks.
- Volunteer. Find a Mentor. Network.
Noorani also told immigrants at the Conference to ensure they have the soft skills needed to meet the needs of Canadian employers.
More advice for immigrants can be found in Noorani’s book, Arrival Survival Canada.
